Addresses and identities

If you own multiple Proton Mail addresses or custom domain addresses, you can select a default for sending emails.

  • Your default email address is the one displayed by default in the From field of the message composer, which can be changed manually.
  • When you change your default sending address, it will sync automatically across all devices running Proton Mail.
  • When responding to an email received on a non-default address, your reply will be sent from that same address, not your default one.

Web app

To update your default email address in the Proton Mail web app:

  1. Log in to your Proton Account at account.proton.me and go to Settings ⚙ → All settings.
  1. In the left sidebar, select Identity and addresses and scroll down to My addresses.
  1. In the Actions column, click the dropdown arrow ⌄ and select Set as default next to the address you want to make your default sending address. You can also drag and drop the address to the top of the list.

Android and iOS apps

Because the interface is identical across both apps, use the following steps to change your default sending address:

  1. Tap the Menu icon (≡) at the top of the screen.
  2. Go to Settings.
  1. Select Account Settings and tap the menu under Default email address to open it.
  1. Select the preferred address.
