Proton Mail Bridge on Linux
Proton Mail Bridge on Linux requires a supported password manager to work. As opposed to Windows and macOS which have a standard password manager, Linux does not have one. Our supported distributions which are Ubuntu LTS and Fedora Workstation (desktop distributions) both package one out of the box and will work.
If your distribution does not package one, you will need to manually install one. Bridge supports secret-service based password managers and Pass(new window). Examples secret-service password managers:
- gnome-keyring
- KWallet
- KeePassXC
Note: Some password managers might have slightly different implementations of secret-service.
If you do not have a password manager, Bridge will not be able to persist data such as the logged in account, the settings, and the message cache.
